Our main priorities have been to build the platforms for our tents to sit on, a bathroom (with composting loo) and outdoor kitchen area, and get some veges in the ground so we can feed the family without the need of going into Mackay.
Oh the joys of the bush! We disturbed a jumping ants nest!!! Dan got munched on the knee and Flipper was bitten 3 times in one day. All she wanted was to stay in the car away from all the nasties and the looks she was giving us! Omg! I've never seen a dog give a dirty look but by the end of the day Flipper had it all goin' on. She was a wee bit pissed off at us for not supplying her with a comfy couch, putting her in danger and loading her full of ticks to boot. So we made up a camp cot, rubbed cream onto her sore bits and bought her a tick collar and set of tweezers for the removal of said ticks. We are still looking for a solution to the ant problem though so if anyone has any ideas, do tell.
The next day, Dan I put down 2 raised beds of soggy cardboard, sugarcane mulch, a thick layer of poo then more mulch. I planted out garlic, tomatoes and basil in one and all sorts of legumes in the other, then we chook and bandicoot proofed them. I also planted a huge variety of seeds into pots to get them cranking while we build another 6 beds but we'll have to do another 2 missions to the poo shop first. What fun!
