Last post was 6 months ago but here I am, back in ol' Sydney Town; back in the land of internet, phones and electricity, crisp mornings and sunny days, multiculturalism and awesome food. It's so good to be back.
We're only in town for a short while, just enough time to regroup our senses then it's off to the NSW Mid North Coast for however long. I'll have Granny Mel's up and running again as soon as I establish a commercial kitchen and get some seeds in the ground. Exciting times ahead!
As you all probably know, we spent 10 months living in a tent in Qld. It was awesome! Love love loved it. Will happily do it all again. We did what we set out to do; built a bush camp, created some art, established vege gardens, met with some inspiring organic farmers and producers as well as developing an income for the family with the refurbishment and start up of a beautiful organic café in the rain forest: The Kiosk
It was sad packing up camp, pulling down our tent and tarps, leaving behind the bones of the structures we had built. So much love went into the building of our little bush camp; the most awesome shower, the best kitchen, a compost loo with bling. Many people, I'm sure would be thinking 'omg, I just couldn't live like that!'. It wasn't about the structures themselves, it was about the hard work and sheer tenacity it took to get to a comfortable level and to keep it that way on a daily basis. When you live in the bush it's not like you can just call someone when stuff doesn't work properly, you have to work it out for yourself. The first day we got running water, and then hot water, I was in tears of utter joy. Building a wonky dry wood box with my mate Ginny was a saviour, it rains a lot in the Gorge and dry wood was a luxury. Smoking beef and pork over a wood fire will never be the same again - it will be a bit different, yes, but it can only get better ;) Saying goodbye to Debbie the rat as she sat on the kitchen sink munching on a taco... she was part of our family too.
And here's one courtesy of ol' mate Dave from up the road. Dozer.
